As IT teams strive to consolidate their app portfolio and eliminate duplicate applications, they often encounter unfamiliar apps, making it difficult to identify overlapping capabilities.

Productiv customers now have a simple, automated way to get visibility into duplicate applications and capabilities in their portfolio without having to do endless research.

As part of a general push to add intelligence into the product, our engineering team built an AI powered feature that combines product and market signals into a nice, friendly UI where you can 

• Identify duplicate applications: Automatically detecting applications with similar or overlapping functionality in use across your organization
• Facilitate consolidation: Gather actionable insights to inform consolidation decisions, and facilitate the consolidation process

Part of the cool nuance we had to think through is that the concept of ‘duplicates’ might be misleading. 

While some applications may have overlapping functionality, they are not interchangeable. For example, Zoom cannot be replaced by Miro simply because both offer collaboration features, and you don’t really want to shut down access to an app that your team is actually using. 

To handle this, the product includes the following

1. AI-Generated Application Descriptions: that break down each application into its key use cases and features
2. Overlapping Functionality View: Highlights other applications that fulfill the same specific use cases (e.g., Miro also supports ‘whiteboarding’)
3. Side-by-Side Comparison: You can select an application with overlapping functionality and compare it directly with another

The UI also pulls in your contract data, renewal, and usage (from engagement connectors) into the same view. 

Note: Duplicate Apps capability uses generative AI, and to take advantage of if you’ll need to enable Sidekick to allow AI access. Your data is yours and never used to train a model.
