A recent report by Entrust Datacard mentions a number of benefits to shadow IT, specifically in terms of productivity and competitive advantage. However, the report also intermixes a few challenges and downsides to the practice, citing security and a lack of best practices among its biggest threats. More than 21% of organizations say they have no formal policies regarding the use of new technology. And if left unchecked, 77% of IT organizations believe that shadow IT will be a much larger problem by 2025.
